Killer Profile: Yang Xinhai

Yang Xinhai is the most prolific serial killer that China has ever seen - while not a whole lot is known about his private life or even his actual motive for the destruction and death he caused, his case will live in infamy throughout China for many years to come.

Yang Xinhai was born into one of the poorest families in his village in the Henan Province of China. He was the youngest of the four children in his family, and was described as both clever and introverted. At age 17, he dropped out of school before beginning his life traveling China working as a labourer. But just three years later, Xinhai found himself in labour camps on the charge of theft. Shortly after, in 1996, he was sentenced to serve five years in prison for attempted rape, and was not released until 1999. After being released from prison, his prior offences seemed to be mere child's play after what would soon come by the hand of Yang Xinhai: 26 incidents, 67 murders, 23 rapes, and 10 intentional serious injuries.

His history is pretty haunting and completely insane, below is a listed provided by Wikipedia:

As you can tell from the list above, Xinhai did quite a substantial amount of damage in just a three year time period. Xinhai would enter the homes of his victims and kill the occupants of the home using various weapons, such as axes, shovels and hammers. In November 2003, Yang Xinhai was detained by police during a routine police inspection for acting suspicious. After discovering that he was wanted in four provinces for murder, Yang eventually went on to confess to 65 murders, 23 rapes and five attacks causing serious injury. Xinhai was found guilty of the crimes against him and he was sentenced to execution by shooting in February of 2004.

Xinhai was nicknamed the "Monster Killer" by the media, and rightfully so. He was relentless in his killing, and he never really gave a full statement as to why exactly he committed the murders. The media had reported that his motive was revenge against society as the result of a breakup, but later other media outlets claimed that Xinhai just enjoyed and found pleasure in his criminal life. While he never did formally provide a motive to police or the media, he was hauntingly quoted as saying, "When I killed people I had a desire. This inspired me to kill more. I don't care whether they deserve to live or not. It is none of my concern...I have no desire to be part of society. Society is not my concern."
